The management department from Academics team of iLEAD organized a session by Zomato, one of the most successful Indian startups, at the iLEAD auditorium. They delivered a session on their growth strategy in today’s dynamic environment. Presiding over the event were Ms Samridhi Singhvi, the PR & Community Manager at Zomato and Ms Jasvin Sahni, Accounts Manager at Zomato and an iLEAD Alumni. The packed auditorium with iLEAD students were enlightened about everything from Brief History of Zomato, Product Growth and Strategies to Case Studies and future Prospects.
The event began with discussion on the origins of Zomato, a search engine for food places, online food delivery and table reservations. Ms Singhvi spoke about the History of the brand were students got to know how the name ‘Zomato’ was coined, their founders Deepinder Goyal, Pankaj Chaddah and Gunjan Patidar (its transformation from FoodieBay to Zomato), how Zomato acquired brands like Urbanspoon and its presence today on 23 countries with more than 10 million online restaurant reviews and 30 million + photos. For a first time user Zomato has a facility for 15% discount. In Kolkata Zomato has 4000 + restaurants listed online. Ms Singhvi spoke about Zero Cost marketing activities and also Traffic, Branding and PR. They shared numerous successful campaign strategies with the students and also described how today they have 12 lakh + online followers.
These were followed by a Q&A session where students got to know that bad reviews of restaurants are also welcomed provided they are authentic, a firsthand experience, free of explicit language and original. After this there was a short quiz with the students on food and Kolkata restaurants, gifts for winners, on spot offers for Zomato app download and much more. Students look forward to more such insightful and entertaining sessions.
